| Somewhere along the line, Society gave us two upgrades in our cabin. No
extra charge. We were elated. we would have a much larger window and
the cabin was better situated.~~With our free tickets from U.S.Airways,
I flew first class to Fort Lauderdale, stayed overnight at Peggie's.
Peggie had hired a limo service to take us to the Miami Airport and it
was all hassle free until we were ready to go through security. (I
don't know what it is with this little old lady. I must have terrorist
written all over me. I always get a random check.) Peggie and I had it
all planned on how we were going to keep an eye on our carryons and
purses. She went first to watch our things come out that end, and I was
going to wait in front until our things cleared on that end. Well, the
security personnel grabbed her case and took it to a table and she
followed. Another one grabbed my bag and took it to another table and
my purse hadn't cleared yet, I was trying to keep an eye on both my
carryon and my purse at the same time. (I was already checked twice in
Pittsburgh, once going through security and again at the gate.) As soon
as we boarded the plane I realized I didn't have my coats. I think they
were left on the conveyor belt. I had a waterproof, breathable raincoat
and I had put my windproof fleece jacket inside it. I was only consoled
by the fact that I had warm wool sweaters and sweat shirts that I could
layer. Also, there was a parka waiting for us on the ship. But, I
still needed a light weight waterproof outer coat.
We flew Business
Class on Copa Airlines out of Miami about 3:30 P.M., changed planes in
Panama City and arrived in Santiago about 3:45 A.M. But their time zone
is two hours later than ours. We ate well in business class. ~~ There
was a Mall within walking distance from our hotel and I found the
perfect rain jacket. And it was made in the U.S.of A. Have to go to
Chile to find something made in the good old U.S.A. Good thing Peggie
can speak Spanish because hardly any of the clerks could speak
English.~~It is Spring to Santiago and the weather was perfect, sunny
and probably about 75 degrees. You could look out our Hotel window and
see the snow-capped Andes. Just a beautiful place.
On the 19th we
left the Hotel at 5:40 to catch a plane to Punta Arenas arriving at
noon. I wish I could properly describe the bus ride to the Airport.
The sun was coming up on one side of the bus and the full moon was
brightly shining on the other. Most beautiful sky you ever saw with the
city lights still on. Installment #3 another day. Sarah
